Border Surveillance:
ASSN currently has four Border Surveillance Booths with qualified and trained counsellors at strategic places along the midwest border. We are currently working towards a fifth booth in the far west, with plans for more in the future.
By working with bus companies and local police, our staff are able to identify young girls whose situations appear questionable and ask appropriately regarding their reasons for travel and who is accompanying them.
These interviews are conducted discreetly and give our counsellors the opportunity to assess whether a potential trafficking scenario exists. Where the counsellor determines there is a threat, the girl is counselled and offered immediate support including the involvement of law enforcement agencies.
We interview about 45 girls every month in one bus park alone!
In the fight against human trafficking, we believe INTERCEPTION is a powerful weapon. It means a girl is rescued before her life is changed forever.
Raising Awareness:
ASSN is committed to raising awareness about human trafficking and educating people about the methods traffickers use trick vulnerable women and girls. We do this by:
Performing street dramas that depict trafficking scenarios
Educating high school children
Running community awareness programs
Handing out educational material
We believe education is a vital part of eradicating human trafficking.
